Earthwork Music Sunday Showcase returns in July, featuring Dede Alder + Jen Sygit, and in benefit of Southwest Michigan Humane Society!

Dede Alder: From humble beginnings, Dede has paved her way on her own experimental, alternative, off the grid musical journey. Dede started playing percussion in 5th grade band. She started her own percussion business while still in High School at the age of 18, called Rhythmic Adventures; Drum Circle Facilitation. At the age of 20, Dede started accompanying her singing and songwriting on vibraphone, and remains a very rare performer to combine singing and mallet percussion together. Her vocal style mixes sweetness with deep soul, a unique combo that you can only experience for yourself. Dede has been teaching, facilitating, and performing music for over 20 years.

Jen Sygit: To hear Jen Sygit sing reminds us that old souls do live in young minds. This Fresh talent haling from Southern Michigan has made a sudden impact on the region’s musical community. Whether delving into mournful blues tunes, haunting folk ballads or rousing bluegrass numbers, Jen’s rapidly growing repertoire of original songs has surpassed many with its sophisticated lyrics and intense emotion. This Interlochen Alumus, while composing songs primarily on guitar, also plays old-time clawhammer banjo as well as the dobro.

Southwest Michigan Humane Society exists as the only NO-KILL shelter in Berrien County. Last year alone the Humane Society of Southwestern Michigan saved the lives of more than 400 cats and dogs. We rescue and re-home dogs and cats, provide services that educate the public concerning responsible pet ownership, and promote the health and welfare of cats and dogs in our community.

Born from the creative minds at the respective organizations, this series aims to combine music that was curated using the expansive Earthwork Music Collective roster, with a non-profit for an evening in which “art meets activism”. The Earthwork artists have long frequented The Livery stage, and possess a unique ability to unite communities through their song craft and passion to better the world. With these combined forces, each showcase event will be in benefit of a focused non-profit that also shares a sense of urgency in assisting the various environmental, and humanitarian issues that challenge the great state of Michigan.

The series kicked off in March 2019, and then run once a month for the remainder of the year. Each show will be a unique pairing of artists, who will share stories of success, struggles, song meanings, and other antidotes about their journey along the way! The evening will be broken into 2 sets of music, allowing for an intermission, along with a chance for the featured non-profit to take the stage.

This partnership hopes to continually expand, announcing new goals, ambitions, and milestones along the way!
